Some concerns have been raised by community members about traffic backing up on to Steekee School Road in the afternoon. I wanted to give you a heads up that there will be a slight change in car pick up procedures beginning this afternoon.
Students who are car riders will assemble in and be dismissed from the cafeteria beginning today, Wednesday, 8/19, until LAUNCH after school program begins 9/1/2026.
When you pick your child up this afternoon, please proceed to the rear entrance of the cafeteria (near the trash dumpsters). Students will be dismissed from that door.
Students must be picked up by 3:30 p, but there are other ways you could help with this backup. Please avoid arriving at school before 3:00 whenever possible. I just wanted to let you know we are experiencing a wide spread internet outage, which impacts our ability to make or receive phone calls.

Just a heads up: Bus 6 will be picking students up from Steekee one hour later than normal pick-up time. Therefore, students will be dropped off approximately one hour later at their designated drop off spot.

I deeply appreciate your support in helping us maintain a positive and productive learning environment for all students.
As we begin the school year, I would like to remind families of a few dress code expectations that have recently required additional attention. The most common concerns involve:
1) Shorts that do not meet the length requirement. Our student handbook states: “Shorts may be worn if the bottom of the shorts come to the end of the fingertips when the arms, hands, and fingers are fully extended. Skirts must not be shorter than three inches from the student’s knees.”
2) Clothing that reveals undergarments or the lack of undergarments or is designed in a way that provides insufficient coverage. Our student handbook states: “Shirts, blouses, etc. must meet or overlap the bottom apparel” (with arms extended). “All shirts must have sleeves or straps that are at least 1 inch wide.”
3) Hats, hoods, bandanas, sunglasses, helmets, etc. are not to be worn in the building at any time except for special school activities or unless a documented medical condition warrants it.
4) Clothing which is too revealing (e.g., too tight, short, or see-through) is NOT allowed, even with leggings underneath. Similarly, skirts/pants/shorts having rips, tears, shreds, holes, writing, or painting on them should not be worn to school.
We understand that many current clothing styles can make these expectations difficult to navigate, and we appreciate your assistance in guiding your child's clothing choices and/or reviewing clothing choices with your child before they come to school.
Our goal is always to keep students in the classroom where learning takes place. However, when a dress code concern is identified, a parent or guardian may be contacted to bring a change of clothing. If appropriate replacement clothing cannot be provided, the student may need to complete coursework from the office rather than the classroom for the remainder of the day.
Please know that our staff does not actively search for dress code violations. However, when a concern is readily apparent, we have a responsibility to address it consistently and in accordance with district policy. Our goal is not to police student clothing or make judgments about personal style. We simply want to ensure that district expectations are followed consistently so that interruptions are minimized and students can remain focused on learning.
Thank you for your understanding and support. By working together, we can help minimize disruptions and ensure that students remain focused on learning. 💚

We are incredibly grateful for the community members who are helping ensure a safe and welcoming start to each school day for our students.
Mayor Jeff Harris, City of Loudon Mayor, will be assisting with morning drop-off on September 8 and September 29. We are also thankful to Mr. Billy Pickel, Loudon County Highway Superintendent, who is returning for a second year and will be helping with student drop-off on most Thursday mornings.
In addition, we extend our sincere appreciation to one of our Steekee parents, Tammy Kaczmarek, who is also returning for a second year to assist with Friday morning drop-off.
Thank you to these wonderful volunteers for investing their time in our students and school community!

Hello Pre-K, Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade Scout parents. I wanted to remind you that health screenings will take place tomorrow, August 24th, for Pre K, K, 2nd and 4th grade students that have not been opted out.

Summer Learning Camp registration has begun. Save your child's spot! Invitations were sent home Monday. Please check your child's backpack, sign and return the invitation. If your child did not receive an invitation, but you would like him/her to attend, please contact your child's teacher. (SLC begins May 26th.)
5th Grade Fieldtrip: 5th grade students will go to the Athens Movie Palace as scheduled, but will not go to the park afterward. Instead, Fifth grade will return to Steekee at approximately 12:00 noon.
